Long Island Transportation Alliance will be holding its 4th Annual Long Island Bike Parade on September 14, 2019, during Long Island Mobility Week. We are happy to report that Long Island Streets, the NY Coalition for Transportation Safety, the Ethical Humanist Society of LI and the Village of Hempstead will be co-sponsoring it with us this year.

This year we will be giving cash prizes for “bicycle float” — the theme of the parade is the environmental benefits of alternative means of transportation. There will be two grand prizes: one for the best “group” float ($500) and one for the best “individual” float ($200). If you are are in a school club, a bike club, or a neighborhood association or such, you may want to consider entering a group float.

The parade will follow a 2-mile loop which begins at Denton Green Park, 99 James A. Garner Way, Hempstead, NY (99 Nicols Ct on GPS). See a map of the route here. The parade will be on-road, but there will be a police escort. There will be a shorter .7-mile pedestrian safety walking tour for participants on foot. See a map of that route here. It will begin at 260 Clinton St and end at Denton Green Park. The shorter route will be completely on sidewalks. The parade routes are shown below.

There will be festival after the parade where we award prizes, write letters and and have fun!

You can download a flyer to distribute from here.

Let’s make this a parade that LI cannot ignore!
