Take Action Now!
Below are some items that you can take action on right now to help make Long Island a more biking/pedestrian/alternative transportation friendly place.
Email or write your NY State Assembly representatives about passing a 3 ft bike passing law. The New York Bicycling Coalition has been working hard to get a 3 foot bicycle passing law passed in NYS. You can find out where the law stands now on the NYBC information page here. It has already passed the NYS Senate! We need it to get through the Assembly now. You can send an email to your state representative here. If you'd like to write your own letter, you can use our talking points, which are listed here. Finally, you can look up your NYS assembly person here.
Write the NYS Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey and/or the NYSDOT Commissioner Matthew Driscol about extending the Jones Beach Bike Trail. We are requesting the make an Eastward expansion to Captree and a Westward expansion to the Nature Center at the west end of Jones Beach. We do not have an online email form for this, but you can use our talking points, which are listed here. The mailing addresses for Commissioner Harvey and Commissioner Driscol are

The Motor Parkway Bike Trail will be an actual bike trail (not lane) that extends from Eisenhower Park to Bethpage Park. You can find out more about the project and its progress here. It has been approved and funding has been secured for the project. We just need them to get going on it! Below is the mailing address and phone number (for all Nassau County Legislators).
