Grand Avenue Complete Streets Traffic Study

Betweeen Merrick Road and Stanton Avenue

Village of Baldwin, Town of Hempstead

Nassau County Department of Public Works (NCDPW) is conducting a Complete Streets Traffic Study along Grand Avenue between Stanton Avenue and Merrick Road in Baldwin, Town of Hempstead, New York. A Complete Street is a roadway planned and designed to consider safe and convenient access and mobility for all roadway users of all ages and abilities. It generally includes proper provision of features such as sidewalks, crosswalks, traffic control signs and signals, lane striping and markings, pedestrian refuge areas, bicycle lanes and amenities, bus stops and pull-outs, curb cuts and other traffic calming measures.

The objective of the Grand Avenue Complete Streets Traffic Study is to identify feasible measures that will provide a safer environment for the users and improve circulation along the approximately 1.4 mile long study corridor. The project team has collected traffic data for existing conditions and projected future conditions based on a locally-refined rate of growth. Most importantly, theproject team has evaluated alternatives and drafted recommendations for feasible improvement measures for the study corridor. We encourage you to attend this important meeting and provide your input on the draft recommendations put forth by the project team. We thank you for all of your dedication to make Baldwin a great place to live, work and play.

The public information meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 18th, 2015 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the cafeteria of the Baldwin Senior High School, 841 Ethel T. Kloberg Drive, Baldwin. The meeting will begin with an open house-style preview of study recommendations and related exhibits, followed by a presentation by the NCDPW project team. The meeting will conclude with a public input and comment session. Attendees will also have the opportunity throughout the evening to view displays depicting study data and information.
